Water Programme Myanmar (WPM)
The Governments of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Netherlands are engaged in a cooperation programme on Integrated Water Resources Management. This programme started in 2013 with a 3 year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the Netherlands Minister of Infrastructure and the Environment and the Myanmar Minister of Transport, on behalf of the National Water Resources Committee (NWRC).
In 2016, the Joint Steering Committee of the MoU decided to extend the MoU until May 2019.
The objective of the MoU is: "Achieving safe and sustainable management and integrated development of water resources and its financing in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar".
The Water Programme Myanmar is executed through the programme Partners for Water, and is financed by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The budget for the programme Partners for Water Myanmar is 3 million euro for the period 2015-2017.
Some projects listed here, are not funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Because of their importance for the realization of the Water Programme Myanmar, it was decided to include these projects.
However, the depletion of the programme shown in the Project Database, is higher than the depletion of the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs' budget.
