Innovation Window: Digitizing Clean Energy Sector Service Delivery Ecosystem in Marginalized Regions of Kenya

The Digitizing Clean Energy Sector Service Delivery Ecosystem project in marginalized regions of Kenya is be implemented by Practical Action together with Integral Media Limited (IML). The goal of the project was to increase access to clean energy for marginalized communities. A digital approach has been taken to tackle systemic value chain challenges, through deployment of IML’s “Yakazi Work & Business Opportunities Platform” in the clean energy sector targeting off-grid lighting and clean cooking businesses owned by youth and women, customized for these groups to connect clean energy businesses, technical education and vocational training institutes, clean energy end-users and clean energy companies. This has contributed to the creation of a sustainable supply system of qualified technical personnel accessible “on-demand” via geo-location on a mobile application, thereby increasing awareness on clean energy products via the digital platform, enabling digital peer networking and work referrals and upgrading the capacity of last-mile entrepreneurs.
