Eradiction of child labour in tourism

A consortium, consisting of ANVR (the Dutch branch organisation for outbound tourism), Dutch tour operators de Jong Intravakanties, Fox Reizen, Riksja Travel and Sawadee and their Indonesia DMCs Discova, Happy Trails, Khiri Travel and Marintur, are working on a FBK-funded project to eradicate tourism-related child labour in Bali. ECPAT Indonesia and Asia Management Consulting are responsible for the implementation of interventions in Indonesia.

The project consists of a number of Work Packages:

  1. Due diligence management Dutch tour operator.
  2. Due diligence management Indonesian DMCs.
  3. Training Indonesian tour guides.
  4. Area-based interventions in Bali (Ubud-Tianyar). These interventions have been identified by means of baseline research and stakeholder workshops in Bali. It concerns:
    1. Making definition of child labor in Balinese context more operational.
    2. Increased financial leverage: funding mechanisms other/future child labour interventions.
    3. Increased child labour awareness  and strengthened CSR policies Balinese tourism schools and companies.
    4. Introduction of child-friendly internship programme.
    5. Increased awareness tourism-related child labour community leaders, parents and children in Tianyar.
  5. Dissemination lessons learned among ANVR members and Indonesian stakeholders.
