Community engagement for sustainable elimination of child labour

The project intends to contribute to elimination of child labour in the cocoa production in Ghana. The worst forms of child labour are highly prevalent there, chiefly as hazardous work performed on family-run farms, and rooted in poverty, prevailing norms, failing or inexistent protective mechanisms, and lacking access to quality education. Eliminating child labour requires addressing these root causes, working on preventative measures, and supporting victims actively. Empowering communities and government services to be self-sustaining and self-driving is critical for success at scale and in the long term.

The project targets 26 communities that are at high risk of child labour to facilitate the creation Community Child Protection Committees (CCPCs), empowering the CCPCs to be able to sensitize their communities members on Child labour, identify and remediate cases as well. Development of Community Action Plans (CAPs) that are child centered will be facilitated in all 26 communities as well child centered Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs).
