Factory support programme: continuous improvement of labour conditions in Tamil Nadu, India
The main objective of this project is to improve labour conditions and living conditions in the supply chains of participating companies in Tamil Nadu by combatting child labour, forced labour, discrimination and gender-based violence, and improving health and safety, wages and freedom of association.
This project has five different result areas:
- Meaningful collaboration among all project partners established, aiming at realising impact on working and living conditions in Tamil Nadu’s supply chains and other regions in India.
- Sustainably implemented due diligence process by participating companies through improved supply chains management (including supply chain transparency), improved business policies and practices, including purchasing practices, to address social risks and improve access to remedy for workers in supply chains in Tamil Nadu, with an expected spill of effect to supply chains in other production regions and countries.
- Informed and empowered workers in the supply chains of companies in Tamil Nadu through improved factory management and functioning worker-management committees, improved hostel management and peer support among hostel workers and a strengthened regional workers helpline, which improves access to remedy for workers.
- Increased impact through improved alignment of programmes and Multi-Stakeholder Initiatives (MSIs) in Tamil Nadu and other regions in India, through collaboration and networking with local stakeholders, MSIs (including Fair Wear Foundation (FWF) and Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) companies, strategic communication and linking and learning.
- Upscaling strategies to Bangalore and the National Capital Region in India, with pilot projects focused on informing and empowering workers and supporting access to remedy for workers.
