Pragati! Towards a living income for turmeric farmers

In Andhra Pradesh, business partners Nedspice and Fuchs Gruppe work on strengthening the position of turmeric farmers within the international value chain, together with NGO Woord en Daad and social enterprise Job Booster India.

In the first phase of the project, the partners made a thorough analysis of farmers' incomes and the factors and value chain dynamics that enable or block realizing a living income for turmeric farmers. They also did research on the prevalence of child labour and gender inequalities.

In the current phase, running from mid-2024 to mid-2026, the partners invest in capacity-building and training of farmers, awareness raising on child labour and gender inequality, and address value chain obstacles to increase farmers' incomes, prevent child labour and promote gender equality. By doing so, the business partners aim to implement improved due diligence mechanisms in line with their own sustainability strategies and legislation.
