Football for water sanitation and hygiene in Ghana (Football for WASH)

The PPP will improve WASH facilities and WASH behaviour at 100 primary schools using football as a mean to reach bigger acceptance of the programme and good WASH practices. For this

• improved school sanitation and water facilities are constructed or rehabilitated,
• football pitches are improved or constructed,
• world-coaches and school staff are trained.

Children are trained on football and good WASH practices and a child to child approach is implemented. This way, the sanitary situation for 70,000 primary school children will be improved. Besides, a WASH football competition is set up, including an extra 80 schools (total 180 schools). Schools have to apply themselves to join the project and are screened on WASH needs and potential. Only if a positive effect is feasible, the school may enter the project.

The project intents helping schools by developing a cost recovery plan for the WASH facilities and football pitches.
