Agribusiness follow-up of market study
In the spring of 2014, the Netherlands embassy in Harare, Zimbabwe took the initiative to commission a report on the agribusiness opportunities in Zimbabwe: 'Agribusiness in Zimbabwe: opportunities for economic cooperation', executed by Brightface Enterprises P/L, a Zimbabwe based Agricultural Development & Agro-processing Specialist. The report provides an overview of the current status of the agriculture sector in Zimbabwe, and the business opportunities the sector currently provides.
Following this report, the Netherlands embassy in Harare would now like to organize a set of activities aimed to assess and attract the interest of the Dutch private sector in the agribusiness sector in Zimbabwe, as well as creating awareness of the difficulties of doing business in Zimbabwe and how to cope with this.
In order to attract Dutch Agribusiness to Zimbabwe, some specific elements of the Zimbabwean context of doing business are relevant for the development of an effective set of interventions aimed to increase Dutch business interest. Some key elements are mentioned below under "Institutional setting". These elements should be taken into consideration when developing the content of the activities suggested.
This project was implemented within the framework of the L4ED programme (Local Economic Development/Leads for Economic Diplomacy) and initiated by the Netherlands representation. The project aimed to contribute to (the enabling environment for) local private sector development as well as economic diplomacy. It concerns a small intervention that serves as catalyser for further developments.
