Children's Automated Respiration Monitor (ChARM)

Pneumonia is the leading cause of child mortality under five, resulting in 1.1 million deaths annually.
The partners in this project are working on a cost-effective technology that will support health workers at the Bottom of the Pyramid, to accurately assess fast breathing rate in children under 5 and support a better diagnosis of pneumonia: the Childrens Automated Respiration Monitor (ChARM).
The device will provide clinical decision support to frontline health workers during their diagnosis of pneumonia and support the prescription of antibiotics for only those children that have fast breathing.
