Strengthening of the chia sector through scientific research

This project strengthens the chia production sector in Bolivia through research and innovation. There is great potential for the chia sector based on the increasing demand and consumption worldwide. At the same time, there is a lack of scientifically based information and data, which is required to substantiate health claims and eventually get into more product segments such as chia oil or flour. Hence, the studies will focus on differentiation, characterization, nutritional values and potential uses of the chia seeds. The ultimate aim is to develop new sub-products from chia seeds to add more value to and strengthen the value chain.
