Impact Cluster: Feed for Poultry Democratic Republic of the Congo

The project 'Feed for poultry in DR Congo' will build a core of model farmers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) to grow yellow maize and soybeans on a profitable base for poultry feed. 
This project is part of a coordinated effort to build a self-sufficient poultry chain, starting in Kinshasa and to be rolled out to other provinces. The goal is to break through the situation in which farmers do not not start producing chicken and eggs because no affordable feed of good quality is available, while farmers who want to grow yellow maize and soybeans for feed do not start because they do not see buyers. 
This project will build market relations and support model farmers to demonstrate their business case and to help disseminate good practices amongst smallholders.

Specifically the project will provide farmers with inputs to cultivate feed crops like maize and soy, train extension workers, train farmers on cultivation, compost production as well as on entrepreneurial skills. Furthermore the project will provide services as mechanical land cultivation and set up a soil lab to provide soil advices. Additionally, the project will explore the use of waste streams in feed and compost production.
