Jakarta Coastal Defence Strategy - Bridging Phase

Following previous work to identify the main direction for realising coastal defence as part of an integrated solution as an investment with economic benefits as opposed to a mere expense, the government of Indonesia asked the government of the Netherlands to assist on the process to realise a 'North Coast of Java Coastal Defence Strategy'. The Government of the Netherlands responded by agreeing to focus on Jakarta first.

Previous work resulted in a document containing all elements of the challenge and relevant stakeholders involved. Potential solutions were discussed and the rules of the game provided guidance as the necessary arrangements to realise solutions. Based on these results, the government of Indonesia and the government of the Netherlands committed to move to a Masterplanning Phase.

To avoid a gap between the previous work done in the so-called stage 1 and the Masterplanning Phase, a Bridging Phase was added during which preparations were being made for the Masterplanning Phase.

The focus of this Bridging Phase was on the North Coast of Jakarta. It focused on other cities on the north coast of Jakarta, flood, and apart from this it also elaborated on the proposed solutions in more detail. Next to that, links were established with other masterplans (including water supply, roads, drainage, communication, port, toll roads).
