RtF – APDA

The Afar Pastoralist Development Association (APDA) operates as RtF hub in Sifra and Adda'ar woreda's in the west of Afar Region, part of the foothills of the Ethiopian Highlands bordering Amhara Region, and in Yanguddi woreda east of Adda'ar and bording the Awash river.

Unlike 20 years ago, when all three districts were well vegetated with forest and grasses, the landscapes have become degraded, due to charcoal production, invasive shrub prosopis juliafora, promotion of rain-fed – drought prone – agriculture, soil erosion, and overgrazing.

Through RtF, APDA aims to regenerate this land through a community-based plan to protect it from over-use and environment damage. The project builds on the community's intimate relation with their environment and their awareness of the benefit of all shrubs and grasses and how they are preserved.
