Tackling land tenure issues to boost sustainable, climate-smart cocoa agroforestry

The project will convert cocoa farmland to more sustainable agroforestry-based cocoa production systems. Focus is upon planting of shade trees in cocoa farms, securing forest patches and restoring degraded land.

This includes registration of cocoa farm land and trees; setting up nurseries; GAP training to farmers; setting up village saving and loan associations; Payment for Ecosystem services.

This will, among other things, result in:

• 15,000 ha of cocoa farmland converted to more sustainable agroforestry-based cocoa production systems.
• 5,000 (1,000 women) farmers with increased productivity and income.
