Ensuring good working conditions in the leather supply chain of H.J. de Rooy - SSF24S010

The project aims to ensure good working conditions for factory and tannery employees. It also promotes environmental sustainability by conserving natural resources. In this project, H.J. de Rooy Lederwaren (H.J. de Rooy) will have meaningful dialogues with rights holders to tackle underlying causes. H.J. de Rooy will collaborate with WE Program, a company that is specialized in facilitating dialogues on social and sensitive topics. Additionally, the company will critically examine its purchasing practices to ensure they align with the goals of promoting good working conditions and environmental sustainability.

The leather sector, from the production of the material itself to bags and other accessories, is notorious for its environmental impact and poor human and labor rights. Exposure to toxic substances and work involving dangerous machinery also leaves workers facing serious health problems.

The direct beneficiaries are the employees in the factories and tanneries. The project also impacts the surrounding communities and families. Additionally, the environment, particularly through the conservation of natural resources, is considered a beneficiary.
