Benchmarking, Stabilising and Institutionalising Inclusive Recycling in Colombia (BASIRC)

The goal of the project is to develop a broadly endorsed and approved, ‘gold standard’, benchmarking and due diligence system for recycling and valorisation performance in Colombia, which establishes clearly the performance of both informal and formal recycling in Colombian cities, and the contribution of recycling results to good waste management in Colombia.

The project is carried out by the Dutch Waste Foundation. The project is seeking to design, develop and field-test this benchmarking system, in partnership with Jewel B.V. (former NMPO), a solid waste data management and benchmarking firm-based in Wageningen, and CEMPRE (Compromiso EMPresarial para el REciclaje), which represents institutional co-operation between informal recyclers and large consumers goods companies. The project will contribute to the stability of the modernization process, by creating broad stakeholder agreement about what is proof and what is evidence about recycling and valorisation effectiveness.

Carrying out a G2G cooperation with Colombia under the Transition Facility, as well as a B2B co-operation under RVO’s Partners for International Business (PIB). Working on a better position for waste pickers has important development effects as well, and is a basic condition for investments of Dutch companies in this field (especially recycling).
