Development and establishment of a Port, Transport and Logistics Centre of Excellence

In South Africa, there is an increasing demand for highly-skilled personnel since a lack of skilled personnel hampers the performance of supply chains at all levels. The current education system does not provide an environment for knowledge, exchange and transfer and vocational education and training that are needed in the port & logistics sector.

A Port, Transport and Logistics Centre of Excellence (CE) providing business educational (specialisation/ post-graduate) programs, research and technical assistance is currently non-existent in South(ern) Africa. All developments in South-Africa and neighbouring countries such as Namibia and Mozambique urgently require the implementation of a CE. The actual demand also includes research and technical assistance.

The short term goal of this project is the joint development and output implementation of a CE providing a wide range of educational (specialisation/ post-graduate) programs, technical assistance and research, in the fields of port, transport and logistics. The initial focus and goal of the project will be on the development of solid educational programs in the port, transport and logistics sector.

The project is being implemented by the Dutch STC-Group and partner Stellenbosch University.

The long term result of the project is to give support to South-Africa and the region (Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Madagascar, Zambia and Tanzania) with a CE providing educational programs, technical assistance and research up to master level, including the use of high-tech simulation technology.
