Building of a multifunctional transshipment terminal

Since the onset of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, Ukraine's agricultural transshipment sector has faced significant challenges. Many facilities have been destroyed or are located in occupied territories. Transport prices have skyrocketed, making it difficult for Ukrainian farmers to sell their grains at a profit. Known as the breadbasket of Europe, Ukraine plays a crucial role in global food security.

To address these issues, the applicant is investing in the construction of a multifunctional transshipment terminal for agricultural products. This terminal is strategically located with European and Ukrainian railway connections, near the Romanian and Moldovan borders, and directly on the Danube River, ensuring a high transshipment capacity. The project has long-term lease concessions, ensuring sustained operations and stability, and the construction is designed for a lifespan of 50+ years.

The applicant brings a wealth of expertise, with extensive experience in agriculture, building, and investing in Ukraine, even amidst the ongoing conflict.

This project represents a critical investment in both local and global food security, strengthening the resilience of the agricultural sector and supporting vulnerable communities, especially the Ukrainian farming community. Additionally, the project can facilitate the import of agricultural goods such as fertilisers, seeds, and machinery into Ukraine, and at a later stage, it can be used to import construction materials for rebuilding the country.

Furthermore, the creation of this transshipment facility will generate jobs, providing much-needed employment opportunities for the local community. By offering a state-of-the-art transshipment terminal, third-party businesses will be able to export their products more efficiently, benefiting companies involved in various sectors. Recognising the strategic importance of such infrastructure, the Ukrainian government has prioritised the development of multifunctional terminals.
