Solar for Schools and Hospitals in Ukraine

The Solar for Schools and Hospitals in Ukraine (SOSH-U) project aims to strengthen Ukraine’s resilience by installing off-grid solar energy systems in 24 healthcare and educational facilities - 23 hospitals and one school - over 12 months (dec ’24-dec ’25). In response to ongoing power outages caused by Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, the project provides a sustainable, reliable energy solution to ensure continuity of essential medical and educational services.

The initiative involves the installation of 2,700 PFAS-free, lightweight, recyclable solar panels from Solarge, coupled with battery storage systems. These systems are expected to supply 30% of each facility’s energy needs, reduce CO₂ emissions by 810 tonnes annually, and cut energy costs by 25%. Beyond technical installation, SOSH-U includes community training, capacity-building workshops, and staff education to ensure long-term maintenance and energy awareness.

The project is implemented by a consortium led by Stichting de Boomgaard (Netherlands), working with LifeLine Ukraine, Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation, and Solarge International. Local Ukrainian installers will be engaged to carry out the work on-site, supported by Solarge’s technical expertise. The project is financed under the Ukraine Partnership Facility (UPF) matched with a 200.000 euro contribution from Stichting de Boomgaard.

SOSH-U not only addresses immediate energy security needs but also supports Ukraine’s green recovery, aligning with national energy strategies and international resilience and sustainability goals.
